Cerebral Palsy requires a joined up approach to health, education and care

Cerebral palsy is a lifelong neurological condition that affects a person’s movement and other aspects of their health, learning, communication, social participation, and wellbeing. Nationwide, there are approximately 30,000 children living with the condition. Action Cerebral Palsy is the only UK charity which advocates solely on behalf of children and young people with cerebral palsy and their families.

Cerebral palsy is complex, affecting each person with it in different ways. Children and young people with CP require high-quality healthcare and special educational needs and disability (SEND) provision from experienced, specialist professionals, so that their potential for full participation in all aspects of life can be maximised throughout their developing years.

The existing legislative framework is fragmented and does not account for CP as a condition. As a result, Action Cerebral Palsy is calling upon policy makers to address the challenges facing children and young people with CP by:

1.     Implementing best practice standard pathways of care

2.     Investing in recruitment and training

3.     Funding dedicated lead professionals
